General Questions
The Accreditation Process
What is accreditation?
Accreditation is the process by which an unbiased organization (SAS) will review a company's operations to ensure that business is consistently conducted in a way that meets national standards of ethics and compliance.

Who does SAS accredit?
SAS accredits many types of temporary and per diem healthcare staffing agencies. Accreditation adds value to your company, providing an external seal of approval that represents a commitment to quality care and high standards.

How much does SAS accreditation cost?
SAS has several fee schedules to accommodate company size, from single office to multiple sites in multiple states. SAS has a very reasonable pricing structure, striving to make accreditation as cost effective as possible. For instance:

Excluding the application fee, the cost for a three year accreditation period, single office, is $8,000. Initial survey year is $6,000 and the next two years require an annual report and $1,000 fee to accompany that report.

There is a regional pricing plan based on number of offices and operational criteria that we believe are quite attractive. Multiple sites vary according to number of offices and a customized quote can be obtained by calling our Business Development Department at (877) 723-0372.

Who develops SAS standards?
A committee of experts representing a diverse wealth of experience from the health care community develops SAS standards. The SAS measurements result from several criteria, one of which is the standards that hospitals are held to by their accrediting or regulatory bodies.

How do I get an accreditation application?
You can call SAS at (877) 723-0372 or (940) 723-0372 and request us to send you an application by mail or download an application form by clicking here.
This application requires Adobe Acrobat

How do I get started with accreditation?
We suggest that you request an application. Return the application with fee and, as soon as the application has been approved, you will receive the Standards Manual. Your organization should then conduct a self-assessment process on your current operations with those required by SAS's standards. You may require some changes in your operating policies and procedures to ensure compliance to standards. We strongly recommend that one or more staff from your organization attend an SAS educational program so that you understand how to interpret standards and how to organize a successful accreditation.

How long does the process take?
It usually takes 2-4 months to complete the process of accreditation once SAS receives your application. The time it takes your company to prepare for the survey may vary, depending on whether you have the appropriate policies and procedures in place.

What if we need assistance in preparing for accreditation?
SAS accreditation reviewers are available to answer questions you may have in interpretation of the standards. If you have questions regarding pricing, you should contact the Business Development Department. If you require extensive assistance in preparing your application, SAS maintains a list of consultants who have undergone training on the SAS application process. We can provide you with a list of consultants if you call the Business Development Department. After you submit an application, SAS assigns an accreditation reviewer to work with you. You can call SAS headquarters if you have questions or to check on the status of your application.

Who makes accreditation decisions?
SAS assigns an accreditation reviewer to each application. That reviewer conducts desktop and onsite reviews. There are always a minimum of two reviewers involved in each accreditation process. The completed review finding based from the desktop and onsite review is presented to the SAS Accreditation Committee (AC). After approval by the AC, the application goes to the SAS Executive Review Board (ERB), which makes the final decision on approval. The specific company information presented to each committee is blinded so that the identity of the organization does not bias decision-making.

What happens if I don't pass the accreditation process?
SAS offers an education accreditation process. SAS will work with an applicant that is having difficulty meeting the standards. SAS will work with you to improve the policies, procedures and processes of the organization. This help occurs before the application is presented to the AC. Once an application is presented to this committee, several alternatives may be recommended. We may place the applicant organization in probationary accreditation or corrective action with the option to review your organization again in a specific period. Alternatively, the lead reviewer may advise an organization that it is unlikely to pass accreditation. In that case, we will allow you to withdraw your application.
